Got my first preps

Just got my order from beprepared.com

I got the variety pack (6 #10 cans, some fruit, milk, granola).

Also got the 25 gallon water storage system (5 gallon boxes with metallized plastic bags).

I also got a wind up radio and cell charger/flashlight, and a multi tool.

I know I'm a long way from where some of you veterans are, and a long from where I need to be, but you gotta start somewhere.

Josh -

This is where we ALL started. To quote yourself;

"but you gotta start somewhere."

That's where I started.

This isn't a beauty contest.

Congrats!

And Josh is already ahead of 99.332% of the country! Keep going.

Good work Josh. My advice to you is to keep quiet about this among your friends and neighbors. If they know what you are doing, and dont do anything themselves, you will become a target when people start getting hungry. The old saying "loose lips sink ships" applies here so only tell the people you trust with your life.

Good job. I don't think anyone here thinks they have everything covered.

We all started and we all continue to reevaluate are holdings.

Congratulations!

I'm still adding. We are taste testing the diabetic ok, no aspartame, no splenda hot chocolate right now. It's great! Cold evening, great for hot chocolate.

We are now adding basics like more beans and tp, plus comfort treats each month (which I think will mean a lot to us when inflation or however the system crashes puts them out of reach). Over time it builds up nicely. These strong dollar days are great for buying preps.

Nice job, Josh.
Question: is the wind up flashlight a Snap-On from Ace Hardware?

Just curious because that's what I have... one of the coolest things I have prep-wise. Thinking about getting a second one for backup - surprised there's not more people here touting those...

Re: Got my first preps

I already posted this in the Mason Jars/Canning thread, but some may be interested.

There is a special for Amex card holders and Wal-mart. You can buy canning supplies and get the discount - not a bad price after the discount! See details below:

For Amex card holders:
http://offers.amexnetwork.com/walmartconnect

If you spend $40 or more on two separate transactions, you get a credit on your Amex worth $20. Walmart sells Mason jars. Recently put an order in for a bunch of jars.

If you are concerned about this being a phishing scam, look at the certificate, it is legit.
Also look at the below:

whois.domaintools.com/amexnetwork.com

I hope this helps!

Our crank flashlight is different, but good. Our big favorite is our LED headlamps with a solar battery charger and extra rechargable batteries. No hands light pointed where you are looking. We love them with the power on for places like under the sink, but if the power were off they would be great for everything from cooking to reading.

My wife and I just stared as well. We went out and bought a large shelf from Lowes and set it up in our basement. It has become somewhat fun for the wife and kids to try and fill it up. We have about $200.00 worth of stuff on it right now and its only about 20% full; still have a way to go.

Canned meats :spam4:and vegies. Soups and Ramon noodles (lots of calaries). four gallons of water, 1000 advil pills and other first aid stuff. Lamp oil and lamp, four small propain cylinders for cooking. TP and bullets (.223, .40 and 12g shot)

Future purchases. 250 gallons of gas for relocation if needed (trailer). 50 gallons of kerosen for heat. Lots more food and silver. I think I need a good year b4 I feel good about my supplies.

Friends think I am being dumb. The only dumb thing is me telling them that I am gonna do it. I am now gonna drop it and play dumb so if it does get bad, they don't think I am the General Store. Sad thoughts, but they where warned.:4_8_4v: I will have to stand in a soup line or two just so I look as ill prepaired as they will be!

No it's not a snap-on brand. No remember which brand it is, but is pretty neat. So is the wind up radio, it actually gets really good reception.

I've realized that I need to focus on some sort of heating. Michigan winter is creeping in, and I'm not too sure what to do if the furnace goes out. I still need to stock up on warm clothes/boots, but probably should look in to a propane heater of some sort.

It's not possible to have too much beans and tp. I'm a big fan myself.

Don't you dare put that gas in your basement. If you have a fire your insurance won't pay.
